Bloating Abdominal pain, also known as ascites, can indicate progressive fatty liver disease or cancer that has started in the abdomen.
Fatty liver disease is a general term for the accumulation of fat in this organ. The cause of such obesity can be excessive alcohol consumption, general obesity, high cholesterol in the blood. Accumulation of fat in the liver is dangerous because it can become a trigger for inflammation, which can later seriously damage the tissue of the organ, cause its hardening and scarring, fibrosis and cirrhosis.
When fatty liver develops, processes occur associated with slowing of blood flow and damage to the vein leading to the organ. As a result, ascites occurs, which is characterized by an increase in fluid in the abdomen and manifests itself as bloating or pain.
The accumulation of fluid causes pain and bloating. A large amount of liquid can cause shortness of breath. This happens because fluid puts pressure on the diaphragm, which in turn compresses the lower parts of the lungs.
But fatty liver disease and cirrhosis aren't the only conditions that can cause ascites. The doctor noted that the feeling of bloating can also be explained by the development of cancer in the abdominal cavity.
Cancer of the appendix, colon, ovaries, uterus, pancreas and liver are diseases that are accompanied by ascites.
Abdominal bloating, which is caused by pathology, is usually not the only symptom. If we talk about liver disease, then, in addition to bloating, it is indicated by such symptoms as bruises that easily appear on the body, very dark urine, tarry stools, itchy skin, mood swings.
