Bright week after Easter. What traditions and prohibitions exist, how to pray

The seven days after Easter are called Light Week or Light Week. Each day of Holy Week is special and has its own traditions.

Holy Week – traditions by day

Each day of the Bright Week has its own traditions and features. We tell you what should be done on these days.

  • Bright Monday – on this day it is customary to visit friends, relatives, and loved ones. You need to take paskas, eggs and other treats with you.
  • Bright Tuesday – on this day it is also customary to visit, but only women do it – men stay at home.
  • Bright Wednesday – on this day you can arrange celebrations, invite guests, go to parties and dances.
  • Maundy Thursday – in ancient times, on this day, they arranged parades or could go to marry. Also on this day there was an interesting custom of “driving a mare” made of hay and a stick.
  • Good Friday – the first Friday after Easter is usually called forgiven. On this day, it is customary to visit the newlyweds. And unmarried girls should wash themselves with ice-cold running water in the morning in order to be healthy and meet their destiny.
  • Bright Saturday is a day of festivities and fun.
  • Bright Sunday, Good Sunday – it is customary to hold ceremonies to invoke spring, rest, walk in the fresh air, go to the cemetery to pray for relatives who are no longer around.

Bright week – prohibitions

During this period, there are certain prohibitions that believers should not violate, so as not to bring trouble and troubles upon themselves. In particular:

  • you can't fight;
  • you can't curse and slander;
  • on Bright Monday and Bright Sunday you can't engage in hard physical work;< /li>
  • on Bright Monday and Bright Sunday, you must not touch sharp objects – a needle, scissors, dust, etc.;
  • you cannot do extensive house cleaning;
  • you cannot plant anything in the garden or in garden;
  • you can't knit.

Bright Week – prayer

On every day of Bright Week, it is customary to pray, addressing the Son of God. Here is an example of a prayer that is suitable for every day:

Oh, Son of God, who resurrected their dead, who showed the whole world the power of the Christian faith! I turn to You with a prayer and I ask You: do not leave me, the servant (y) of God (y) (name), in difficult times, protect me from evil and help me during the Great Depression. Be merciful to me, Lord, cleanse my soul of sins. Amen.

Lord God, who performed the miracle of the Resurrection, rose from hell and appeared to the world. I pray to You for the forgiveness of my sins and hope for Your mercy. Protect me from evil thoughts, don't let me commit evil deeds. I offer a prayer of gratitude to You and hope for Your help in the future. Amen.
