Can music improve memory in dementia?
0
Scientists from Spain decided to find out whether music helps strengthen memory in patients with Alzheimer's disease. They were interested in the so-called “Mozart effect”.
Spanish scientists spend a lot of time studying the influence of the “Mozart effect” on the memory of patients with serious cognitive impairments. Such disorders accompany the most common form of senile dementia, Alzheimer's disease. The research has yet to be conducted, and its authors do not yet know what results they will get. This experiment will consider which aspects of music can be considered key in achieving cognitive benefits, that is, which music relaxes and invigorates, and at what time it is best to listen to it.
Researchers emphasize that it is important to distinguish between two aspects of music therapy. , as they are associated with different memory processes. And now it is necessary to determine which aspect can be most useful for a person. Science already has evidence that music can increase performance in processes related to memory, learning and attention.
However, most of these studies were conducted on healthy people, they did not involve patients with senile dementia. And now it is suggested that music can be an additional tool for stimulating the intelligence of people suffering from memory problems. Neurodegenerative diseases, which include Alzheimer's disease, are accompanied by difficulties in forming new memories and the disappearance of old memories. And music can be one of the ways to help consolidate new information.
