Can you get rabies from a person?

We know that the rabies virus can be carried by stray dogs, bats, raccoons and other wildlife. The infection is usually transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal when bitten. The disease in humans is considered completely preventable if the vaccine is administered after the bite, but before symptoms appear. However, the question often arises, Can a person who has been bitten by a rabid dog be contagious?

In theory, the transmission of rabies from person to person is possible. But there is no reliable practical confirmation of such a possibility to date. In other words, throughout human history, there have been only a few cases where contact with another person was considered the cause of rabies, but in most cases, researchers conclude that there is no strict scientific confirmation of these facts.

Based on this, the theoretical possibility of infection from a person can be considered extremely unlikely. Thus, this possibility should not worry you much. Especially considering that you are undergoing a course of adequate preventive treatment.
