Cancer: A popular food can stimulate the growth of large tumors

According to scientists, everything becomes it is more obvious that eating habits are one of the key factors influencing the occurrence and growth of cancerous tumors.
Researchers remind that food, which contributes to the growth of adipose tissue in the body, is primarily associated with the development of cancer. Excess fat activates processes that encourage tissue cells to undergo abnormal growth and accumulate in neoplasms (tumors). A recent study found that popular foods increase people's susceptibility to obesity and cancer.
Learn more about this work by scientists representing the National Cancer Institute. Scientists have come to the conclusion that products with a high fructose content can be provocateurs of cancer. In particular, researchers associate their consumption with a predisposition to colon cancer.
“Being a popular sweetener, fructose increases the lifespan of cancer cells in the intestine, which leads to the formation of larger tumors,” the scientists say.< /p>
Biologists conducted tests on mice, which were given corn syrup with a high concentration of fructose. Experts note that they were able to observe the molecular mechanism that explains why fructose can stimulate the growth of malignant tumors. It turned out that when it is consumed, there is an active growth of the villi that line the intestines, thanks to which the absorption of nutrients becomes more intensive. Tumors in the intestines, which receive such increased nutrition, begin, accordingly, to grow faster.
In addition, the elongation of the villi in the intestines contributes to the accelerated growth of adipose tissue, which also stimulates the development of tumor formations. The authors of the work summarized that feeding rodents corn syrup with a high fructose content led to both an increase in the size of tumors in the intestine and their more aggressive spread.
Experts draw attention to the fact that fructose is a widely used food ingredient. , many popular foods and drinks contain it. As such, it does not harm the body, but the problem is that modern people use it in large quantities.
Scientists will continue to study the effect of fructose on the body with the participation of people.
