Saturated fiber, protein and essential nutrients, beans are rightly called the “humble superfood,” experts say.
There's more to the unassuming bean than meets the eye: it's loaded with fiber, protein and essential nutrients, such as folic acid, potassium, zinc and magnesium – British nutritionist Alex Glover told about this in an interview.
The specialist states: healthy food is not necessarily expensive. He recommends using canned beans, noting that this product has a number of health benefits. The main thing, emphasizes Glover, is to monitor the content of salt and sugar in the product, if necessary, it is better to eat canned beans pre-washed.
Intestinal cancer prevention. Adults are recommended to eat 30 grams of fiber daily – its deficiency increases the risk of bowel cancer. A can of beans contains approximately 16 grams of fiber.
Extending life.Scientists have proven that a diet rich in fiber reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke – diseases that shorten life expectancy.
“Fiber is very important for maintaining the diversity of the intestinal microbiome. Diets rich in fiber are associated with reductions in many metabolic conditions, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, because fiber can bind to glucose and cholesterol, lowering their blood levels.”
Weight loss. Nutritionist Glover recommends canned beans as a product that accelerates the process of losing weight. Thanks to the high content of fiber and protein, beans prolong the feeling of satiety, protect against too strong a feeling of hunger. At the same time, it itself has quite a few calories and saturated fats.
Strengthening immunity. One of the many minerals contained in beans is zinc. Our body needs it for a number of functions, and the mineral is also important for the immune system – zinc affects how the body's cells respond to infections and can help control inflammation.
