Cardiologist reveals the best diet to protect against heart disease

There is an increasing number of scientific papers suggesting that certain foods can improve heart health. And in the UK, cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death.

Cardiologist Oliver Guttmann from Wellington Hospital (UK) said that it is best to follow one diet to maintain heart health. It should include plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish, poultry, nuts, and vegetable oils.

In addition, it is important to avoid certain drinks and foods. You should limit your alcohol intake. Experts recommend that both women and men regularly drink no more than 14 units of alcohol per week.

You should also try to eat less red and processed meat, refined carbohydrates, drinks and foods with added sodium, sugar, and foods with trans fats. This should be done as early as possible, as the likelihood of developing heart disease increases with age, especially in adults who are 65 years of age and older.

In addition to the above, you should limit your salt intake. This is because this seasoning can contribute to an increase in blood pressure. You should eat no more than one teaspoon of salt per day in total.
