Which people are at increased risk of stroke? First of all, these are hypertensives, as well as people with high cholesterol, atherosclerosis, blood clots. The Cleveland Clinic states that people from the risk group can reduce their susceptibility to stroke by eating healthy.
According to experts, certain foods that are consumed at every meal can protect against stroke – in particular, “when at every meal you should eat a variety of vegetables, fruits and legumes of various colors: dark red, orange, bright yellow, dark green, blue and purple”.
Experts note that, following this rules, you can provide your body with a wide range of nutrients that are beneficial for general health and brain health in particular.
In general, to improve protection against stroke, doctors recommend a low-fat, high-fiber diet, which includes plenty of fresh plant-based and whole-grain products. You should not eat too much of any one food, especially those with a high salt content or industrially processed foods.
Another restriction that is important to observe is the strict moderation of alcohol consumption. If a person has already suffered a stroke, they should talk to their doctor about the possibility of drinking alcoholic beverages, because in this case, even the recommended safe levels of alcohol may be too high for the body.
