Chips turned out to be even more harmful than previously thought

Many people like to snack on this popular product. However, according to experts, chips can cause many unwanted side effects.

The average bag of crisps contains enough fat and salt to keep anyone on a diet from eating too much. In addition to harming the figure, this snack increases the likelihood of other health problems. Nutritionist Blanca GarcĂa said that chip chips can contribute to tooth decay.

She explained that this is due to bacteria in the mouth fermenting dietary carbohydrates. Chips are rich in hydrolyzed starch (split carbohydrates). When you eat them, two things happen: the chips stick to the teeth and lower the pH of the tooth tissue, which allows bacteria to ferment.

In addition, chips demineralize the tooth, increasing the risk of tooth decay, writes Eatthis.com. The University of Rochester Medical Center ranks potato chips as one of the worst foods for your teeth because they can get stuck in crevices and cause long-term damage.

Another fact was revealed by expert Holly Klamer. He noted that chips expose the body to a potential carcinogen – acrylamide. It is found in tobacco smoke and some environmental pollutants, but can also be found in a number of foods.

This odorless and tasteless carcinogen is commonly used as a food preservative, according to Winchester Hospital. It occurs naturally when potatoes are fried at high temperatures.

Studies in mice suggest that acrylamide may increase the risk of certain types of cancer. Scientists from North America and Western Europe independently concluded that cooking potatoes in oil at high temperatures resulted in a product with a significant acrylamide content.
