Chocolate before bed: why does the body crave sweet and unhealthy food?

Probably, each of us sometimes wants something unhealthy: a bar of chocolate, a piece of cake, or a burger with fries. This happens when the body is trying to hint to us. Let's learn to recognize the signals in time!

1. Sugar and sweets

The craving for sweets is like a Catch-22: the more you eat, the more you want. After a portion of sweets, blood sugar levels rise, insulin is produced. You get a boost of energy, and when it passes, you want to eat something sweet again and run further.

To break out of this cycle, reduce your sugar intake, eat more vegetables and fruits, as well as foods rich in protein. Then you will also have energy, and it will last a long time.

A craving for sweets can mean a lack of zinc, magnesium, and chromium in the body. The easiest way to stop pouncing on cakes is to buy vitamins.

2. Chocolate

Some people are not just craving sweets, but chocolate, milk or dark. This is often associated with critical days: that is why women love chocolate more than men. Also, a craving for chocolate can indicate a magnesium deficiency (it helps fight stress and produce energy).

To avoid getting hooked on chocolate completely, experts advise adding cocoa powder to your food and avoiding sweet bars with a low cocoa content.
