Coffee significantly reduces cancer risk in women “if you drink enough”

Coffee can reduce the risk of endometrial cancer by almost a third if drunk in sufficient quantities, a study by the Japanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology has shown.

Endometrial cancer is a common form of uterine cancer, characterized by the development of a malignant tumor in the lining of the uterus. The exact cause of this type of cancer is still unknown, but, on the other hand, scientists have found out what women can do to prevent the disease. Experts from the Japanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology concluded that drinking coffee is an effective organic way to prevent endometrial cancer.

“Women who drink the most coffee have a 29% lower risk of developing endometrial cancer than those who drink little, rarely, or not at all,” their summary reads.

Japanese doctors previously analyzed 24 studies that studied the effects of coffee consumption. In total, they contained data on more than 699,000 people.

Scientists did not name a specific number of cups of coffee that women should drink. But it is believed that drinking the drink should not significantly exceed 400 mg per day – this is about four cups of coffee.

Researchers explain the anti-cancer effect of coffee by the action of its chemical components, including catechins, caffeine, ferulic and coumaric acids. All of them are phenolic compounds that have pronounced antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
