No matter how delicious there were no ice cream, chips or even French fries, they can have a negative effect on health and especially on the liver. Like any other organ, the liver is susceptible to various diseases, most of which are the result of poor nutrition.
For example, a recent study found that consuming even moderate amounts of added sugar can double the production of fat in the liver, which in turn, it leads to the development of fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes.
According to scientific work, fructose (sugar) in liquid form can affect the metabolism of the liver. For their study, scientists recruited 94 healthy men aged 18 to 30 with a moderate weight.
During the experiment, the participants received the usual number of calories for them every day, but with the addition of sweetened beverages to the diet. As a result, it was found that additional fructose consumption affected general health, including increased body fat production.
“This effect was also observed more than 12 hours after the last meal or sugar consumption,” – said the lead author of the study, Dr. Philip Gerber from the University of Zurich.
Cardiologists advise reducing the consumption of added sugar to 6% of the total caloric content of the daily diet. For example, women are recommended to consume no more than six teaspoons of sugar per day, and men no more than nine.
