Dangerous side effects of a “healthy” drink discovered

The healing properties of the popular drink, which is drunk daily in many cultures, are recognized by experts around the world. It contains more antioxidants than any other analogue, has anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic effects. In addition, this drink is rich in micronutrients: zinc, manganese, vitamins A, B and C. However, you should not abuse it, as it can cause great harm to the body.

Green tea contains caffeine, although less than in coffee. However, doctors say that a few cups a day are enough to raise blood pressure. Experts urge people with hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases to limit their consumption of the drink to avoid possible complications.

Green tea helps to relax, but too many cups a day can cause stress. Doctors point out that a large amount of caffeine provokes the production of the stress hormones norepinephrine, adrenaline and cortisol.

In large quantities, the drink, according to doctors, can interfere with the absorption of iron and, thus, cause iron deficiency anemia – a condition in which there are not enough red blood cells and hemoglobin in the blood. Therefore, experts do not advise drinking green tea an hour immediately after eating.

Moreover, the product causes indigestion, experts note. This is due to the tannins in the drink – with an increased level of these compounds in the body, dry mouth, nausea and problems with the gastrointestinal tract occur. Since green tea contains caffeine, a large amount can cause diarrhea and vomiting.
