A neuropsychologist explained in an interview how long a daytime sleep should last.
The specialist said that daytime sleep helps improve health and reduces the risk of vascular accidents.
“Daytime sleep helps restore strength, increase productivity and concentration. Thanks to such rest, the level of stress hormones decreases, which reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes,” the doctor informed.
At the same time, the specialist emphasized that daytime sleep should not be long.
“It is important not to exceed the duration of daytime sleep – experts recommend sleeping from 10 to 20 minutes,” the specialist specified.
It is best to sleep this way during the day from 1 to 3 p.m. The rest of the time (except at night) it is not recommended to sleep.
The expert explained that with longer rest, a deep phase of sleep occurs. If a person is woken up during this period, they will not feel rested, but “broken”. A daytime sleep that lasts more than two hours can cause insomnia at night.
The neuropsychologist added that the opportunity to sleep during the day is certainly not available to everyone. But for working adults, it's important to take breaks to help your body cope with stress without feeling overwhelmed. To do this, it's helpful to spend up to 20 minutes in a calm, quiet environment, relaxing and closing your eyes.
