Do eggs really increase the risk of death: what experts say

Chicken eggs are back in the spotlight discussions after the publication of data on their ability to increase a person's risk of death. Is it really so?

Regarding the use of eggs, an alarming opinion was again voiced: that their regular inclusion in the diet increases the risk of premature death for people. The co-author of the project, Professor Yu Zhang From Zhejiang University (China), said that the increased mortality associated with the consumption of eggs is largely dependent on the consumption of cholesterol.

According to the scientist, the investigation carried out by his colleagues showed , that people who consumed an additional 300 milligrams of cholesterol per day – including from eggs – had a 19% increased risk of death.

These data were commented on by a British expert in the field of nutrition, Dr. Nighat, who spoke on the air of the ITV This Morning channel. The specialist noticed that the method of cooking eggs is a fundamentally important aspect.

“How you cook the egg is more important. If you fry it, the fat content will immediately increase by 50 percent. “Sprinkling scrambled eggs with grated cheese will increase the fat content and cholesterol potential of the dish even more,” the expert warned.

In addition, their consumption helps maintain a normal weight and even lose weight due to the large amount of well-digested protein and the ability to maintain a feeling of satiety for a long time. Thanks to the same qualities, eggs improve blood sugar control and prevent its sharp fluctuations.

According to the expert, the use of boiled eggs, especially in combination with vegetables, greens, and whole grain bread, does not increase the risk of death if the mother meaning an adequate amount of food. The expert says that the data obtained in one study can hardly serve as a postulate – they need to be clarified and re-checked.

Dr. Dwayne Mellor, a senior researcher at Aston Medical School at Aston University, agrees with this conclusion. . He noted that the Chinese researchers did not take into account the method of preparation of the eggs eaten by the participants, nor did they take into account the effect of other foods present in their diet. The expert pointed out that eggs are present even in the Mediterranean diet, which is considered the healthiest diet and is recommended as a standard.
