Do spiders really bring luck: facts and superstitions

Spiders have always attracted attention and aroused people's curiosity with their mysteriousness. Therefore, it is not surprising that these insects have become part of our beliefs and traditions.

The list of superstitions about spiders that Ukrainians still believe in has been compiled by RBC-Ukraine.

Since ancient times, spiders have been associated with many superstitions. Meeting a spider is often considered a good sign.

For example, in England it is believed that seeing a spider can mean money. If a spider appears in an inappropriate place, it is selected and moved somewhere else. If you save a spider, it is believed that this can lead to wealth, and vice versa.

The tradition of associating spiders with money dates back to Roman times, when people wore spider amulets to attract success in business. The little spiders are often called “money spiders” and it is considered extremely unlucky to kill one.

Spiders have always been welcome guests in people's homes because they trap flies and other insects in their webs. Legends say that spiders also provide energy protection for your home.

One Christian tradition says that Jesus, Joseph and Mary hid from Herod's soldiers in a cave. A spider had spun a web near the entrance, and the soldiers were unable to look inside, as they assumed that no one had been in there for some time.

To find a spider in the morning is sadness, at noon – anxiety, in the afternoon – to a gift.
In folk beliefs, spiders are often considered signs of good luck and have their important role in maintaining the natural balance.
