Eye problems can be caused by various reasons . Vitamin deficiency can negatively affect eye health.
For those whose diet lacks key vitamins or nutrients that a person needs on a daily basis, or in the case of a diagnosed vitamin deficiency, a doctor may recommend taking vitamin supplements. However, for most people, the vitamins that come with food are enough for the health of the eyes, according to experts from the Cleveland Clinic (USA).

“Most people do not need them (vitamins – ed.) for eye health. – says ophthalmologist, doctor of medicine Richard Hans. – You can get the necessary vitamins from your diet. And there is little evidence linking vitamin supplements to improved eye health.”
However, there is one exception: age-related macular degeneration. And here it makes sense to consult an ophthalmologist. Some research suggests that taking antioxidant vitamins in combination with zinc may be able to slow the progression of the disease to late stages and vision loss. But at the same time, in an analysis of randomized studies in the US, it is noted that long-term daily use of multivitamins does not significantly affect visually significant age-related macular degeneration.
Doctor Hans advises to get vitamins through food. This is not only good for eye health, but also for general health.
What foods are high in eye vitamins
Leafy green vegetables , such as spinach, cabbage, different types of lettuce and greens, contain many vitamins and nutrients that are good for eye health. Omega-3 can be found in oily fish and many types of nuts and seeds. And carrots are rich in vitamin A, which is important for the metabolism of the retina, the ophthalmologist advises.
