Doctor advised to start checking cholesterol levels after 40 years of age

Cardiologist: after 40 years, you should check your cholesterol levels at least once a year.

The doctor reminded in an interview that the most effective way to determine elevated cholesterol levels is one way – through an appropriate blood test.

“If the patient does not pass the test, he will never find out about high cholesterol levels, because it “does not hurt” and does not declare itself in any way,” the doctor said.

The doctor advised to start regularly checking cholesterol levels after 40 years – this should be done, according to the doctor, at least once a year. The specialist warned that with an increased cholesterol content, it is deposited in the vascular walls along with the formation of plaques that contribute to the blockage of blood vessels and arteries. Plaques that are deposited and accumulate in the coronary artery, which feeds the heart, significantly increase the risk of a heart attack.

“Because there is less cholesterol in the blood, the lower the risk of myocardial infarction,” the expert concluded.
