The coloproctologist explained why it is important to avoid excess fat around the waist.
The doctor noted in an interview that there is a close connection between excess weight and the likelihood of developing colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon and rectum). This connection is direct: the more body weight exceeds the norm, the higher the risk of this type of cancer, the specialist stated.
The doctor explained how waist size affects the occurrence of colon cancer.
“On average, the likelihood of developing the disease increases for every two extra kilograms per square meter. With every two extra centimeters of waist circumference, this risk also increases,” the doctor said.
The expert emphasized that even in the presence of objective factors that prevent weight loss, overweight people should strive to adhere to healthy habits. In such circumstances, the doctor considers it important to exercise and eat healthy foods.
