Doctor recommends 5 foods to normalize cholesterol levels

LDL is bad cholesterol; this type blocks your arteries and increases the risk of heart disease. HDL is good cholesterol; it helps get rid of bad cholesterol by delivering it to the liver. So you need high HDL and low LDL.

Asda's Dr. Catherine Basford has named the most effective foods for lowering cholesterol. It's about the humble pumpkin.

According to Dr. Catherine Basford, “pumpkin seeds contain a compound called phytosterol, which is very effective in lowering LDL cholesterol. Phytosterols lower cholesterol by blocking the absorption of harmful cholesterol from food.”

In addition to pumpkin seeds, berries should also be added to your diet. They contain a chemical known as polyphenols.

They “help reduce the risk of stroke, improve insulin resistance and systemic inflammation, and lower blood pressure,” says Dr. Basford.

“If you’re not a berry lover, you can also get polyphenols from tea, cocoa, and fruits, as well as vegetables.”

Three more foods you should include in your diet:

  • Tea
  • Cocoa
  • Vegetables

Exercise is crucial for lowering cholesterol. Just 30 minutes of moderate or vigorous exercise a week can lower cholesterol, stroke risk, and improve your fitness.
