Doctor reveals 'invisible' symptom of deadly cancer that can be mistaken for a cold

This symptom affects more than half of patients and can easily be taken as a sign of something less serious.

< p>Cancer is one of the main causes of death.

It occurs when abnormal cells divide uncontrollably, potentially invading and destroying nearby tissues and organs. There are over 200 types of cancer. Symptoms are often related to where in the body the cancer started. However, this is not always the case. They are also not always obvious or easy to detect.

An oncologist has warned that leukemia – a type of blood cancer – can cause “invisible” symptoms. These symptoms may only be felt by the person with the disease.

“One of the most common symptoms of leukemia is fatigue, with over 50 percent of patients reporting feeling extremely tired/exhausted,” says the oncologist.

It’s described as fatigue that “lasts a long time” and “doesn’t go away with rest.” It could easily be mistaken for something less serious, like a cold.

“Feeling tired can be related to a cold, a viral infection, or even just everyday stress,” he said.

That’s why she said you should seek medical attention if something isn’t right.

“The most important thing is to trust your body. If you know that your fatigue is more than just everyday fatigue, don’t discount it. If it’s bothering you, see your doctor and ask for a blood test,” the doctor says.

A blood test is “the only way to diagnose” leukemia, he says.

Other common symptoms of leukemia include:

  • Bruising and bleeding more easily or bleeding that takes longer to stop
  • Infections that occur more often, are more severe, or last longer.
  • Fever (high temperature)
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Swollen lymph nodes (glands in the neck, armpits, and groin).
  • Shortness of breath
  • Generally feeling unwell.

“There are other common symptoms of leukemia, such as loss of appetite and headache. Contact your doctor if you are concerned about any symptoms you are experiencing,” advises the oncologist.

It can also cause increased sweating, an enlarged liver, bone pain, and blood clots.

Fatigue is also considered a common symptom of cancer.

The doctor lists the following “key” signs of cancer:

  • Very heavy night sweats
  • Fatigue
  • Unexplained bleeding or bruising
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Unexplained pain
  • Unusual lump or swelling anywhere on the body
  • A new mole or change in a mole
  • Skin changes or an ulcer that does not heal.
