The habit of reading and working while lying down is very harmful to eyesight, an ophthalmologist warned.
According to the doctor, one of the main factors that spoil eyesight is the daily increased strain on the eye muscles when we look at something close. That is why the doctor advised taking breaks every hour while working at the computer or while reading. To do this, it is enough to distract yourself and look into the distance for 5-10 minutes.
Another habit that worsens vision, the ophthalmologist called visual strain in poor lighting. Too bright or dim light increases the tension of the eye muscles, as a result of which they spasm. Dry eye syndrome can also develop for this reason, the specialist explained.
The doctor urged to abandon the habit of working or reading while lying down. “While working in this position, the tension in the neck muscles increases, the blood supply to the head, neck and eyes may deteriorate. In addition, the eye muscles receive a lot of strain – when looking at an angle, they have to “fine-tune” the image,” she explained.
