In order to reduce the level of cholesterol in the body, first of all it is necessary to balance the diet. Doctors recommend replacing some foods with more healthy ones. For example, experts advise to exclude whole milk from breakfast, replacing it with oat or almond milk.
Regardless of where exactly whole milk is added – to coffee, tea or porridge, it can increase the level of cholesterol in the blood. At the same time, almond and soy milk are considered a healthier alternative.
For example, soy milk contains about 50 calories per 100 ml, and almond milk – about 20. In addition, such drinks do not contain saturated fats, but for a healthy diet you should choose unsweetened milk.
“You can lower your cholesterol by eating a balanced diet and exercising. Some people also need to take medication. Plaques can appear in the walls of blood vessels because of too high a cholesterol level. This increases the risk of developing heart problems or a stroke,” the doctors warned.
According to experts, with high cholesterol, it is necessary to exclude food rich in saturated fats from the diet. In particular, doctors advised to give up:
- processed meat, sausages and sausages;
- butter and ghee, lard;
- cream and hard cheese;
- cakes and cookies;
- products containing coconut or palm oil.
