If chest pain occurs, it can indicate neurological diseases or heart problems, including very serious and dangerous ones – how can they be distinguished?
Doctors explained in an interview what is the difference between pain caused by neuralgia and pain due to heart pathologies. The cardiologist specified what problems with the heart can be indicated by a painful feeling in the chest area.
For example, myocardial infarction, aortic aneurysm, angina pectoris. Or thromboembolism of the pulmonary artery.
The doctor added that both neuralgia and a sick heart can manifest themselves with similar symptoms – this is pain in the sternum on the left, their return to the arm or neck, scapula. How do they differ?
“With a heart attack, the pain does not have a clear localization. With neuralgia, you can usually find a clear point where the unpleasant sensations are the strongest,” the cardiologist shared.
The doctor added that a neuralgic attack is longer in time and its pain is constant in its nature, while in heart failure it “rolls in waves”. In addition, heart pain is characterized by pressing, squeezing, burning sensations behind the sternum, while neuralgia is distinguished by aching, pulling and monotonous.
Another specialist, neurologist Mykola Votchytsev reported that the pain felt in the chest is a common symptom, the cause of which can be various pathologies and disorders. It is very difficult to immediately say why the chest hurts: an experienced doctor will take into account all the conditions that accompany it before making a diagnosis.
“Stomach ulcer, pneumonia, pancreatitis, and even a spasm of the stapes muscles can be manifested by loaded pain. muscles that suddenly opened, which, due to the compression of nerve trunks, often causes the same pain in the hand as during a heart attack,” said the neurologist.
Votchitsev emphasized that with pain on the left side, away from the heart, you should consult a doctor , without making independent attempts at pain relief.
