Doctors from Great Britain named the symptoms of thyroid cancer

Symptoms of thyroid cancer are associated with changes in the condition of the throat and neck – the most common is the appearance of a lump on the neck, usually painless.

Cancer, which affects the thyroid gland, is a rather rare type of malignant tumors, and for an unknown reason, women are more prone to it (they are affected two to three times more often than men). Another unpleasant feature of the disease is that it is not associated with aging, like many other types of cancer, it can occur at a young age after 30 years.

There are four main types of thyroid cancer: papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma, medullary carcinoma, and anaplastic carcinoma.

• Papillary carcinoma accounts for eight out of ten thyroid cancers and usually affects people younger than 40, especially women.
• Follicular carcinoma is the next most common, it mainly affects middle-aged women.
• Medullary carcinoma of the thyroid gland can be inherited and have a familial character.
• Anapestic carcinoma – the rarest, usually diagnosed in people over 60 years old.

These details were shared by doctors from the Cancer Research UK organization (Great Britain), and they also named the symptoms of thyroid cancer.

“The most common symptom is a lump that forms in the lower front part of the neck, as a rule, without painful sensations. Only one out of twenty such formations turns out to be malignant, but you should still visit a doctor and be examined, having noticed its occurrence”, quotes experts.

Among other symptoms of thyroid cancer, which were named by doctors, the following stand out:

• swollen glands in the neck,
• unexplained hoarseness that lasts for several weeks,
• a sore throat that does not go away,
• difficulty swallowing.

“In addition, thyroid cancer can affect the production of thyroid hormones, causing reactions such as diarrhea and reddening of the skin due to increased blood flow. These phenomena can also be associated with non-serious health problems, but a doctor should determine whether this is the case,” the experts summarized.
