Pediatricians from Italy have determined at what age it is optimal for children to start playing sports. Physical activity at a young age helps create a base for reducing the risk of developing a number of health problems in the future.
In particular, early sports will help reduce the risks of developing diabetes, cardiovascular problems, and overweight in adulthood, and the likelihood of asthma is also reduced. As stated in the recommendations of the Italian Pediatricians' Union, a child can swim from the age of three without the risk of injury.
After reaching the age of five, children can be given rhythmic gymnastics and gymnastics. However, these are gentle exercises, more intensive training is permissible from the age of eight.
A child can start skiing from the age of four, and football is recommended from the age of six. After the same age, martial arts lessons can be taken, and fencing and tennis can be started no earlier than seven. Doctors do not advise practicing basketball or volleyball before the age of ten.
