Doctors have found a new risk factor for diabetes patients
Diabetes is largely the result of excess weight and inactivity. According to scientists, about 463 million people suffer from diabetes in the world.
A study by British and Australian scientists showed that sleep patterns can play an important role in improving the condition of diabetes patients.
Doctors studied the daily routine and physical activity regime of 635 patients with diabetes. 25% of them preferred to go to bed early and get up early, going to bed at 10.52pm on average. 23% got up late and went to bed at 00:36 on average.
It turned out that the physical activity of “owls” is 56% less than that of “larks”. “Exercise plays an important role for people with diabetes, helping to maintain a healthy weight and blood pressure, as well as reducing the risk of heart disease,” explains one of the study's authors, Dr Joseph Hanson from the University of Leicester.
“ Because sleep patterns can potentially be changed, these results provide an opportunity to change your lifestyle for the better simply by changing your sleep time,” concludes Dr. Alex Rowlands from the University of South Australia.
