Doctors say that a certain eye color carries risks of developing specific diseases. Melanoma, alcoholism, cataracts and age-related diseases are on their list.
Studies have shown that blue-eyed people have a higher risk of developing aggressive melanoma. For this reason, wearers of this eye color should better protect their skin from the sun.
According to the results of a study conducted in 2001, blue-eyed people are more likely to become addicted to alcohol than dark-eyed people. As for the latter, they are more likely to become addicted to psychoactive and narcotic substances.
Six years ago, the American Pain Society presented the results of its work, according to which light-eyed women tolerate pain better during and after childbirth, while dark-eyed women are prone to to various fears and behave more restlessly.
It was also established that among the latter there are fewer people suffering from age-related diseases. People with light eyes have a higher risk of macular degeneration, which leads to vision loss after the age of 60.
And brown-eyed people, on the contrary, are more prone to developing cataracts. In patients with dark eyes, hearing loss is less often recorded, which is explained by more melanin in the inner ear. Pigment protects not only the skin, hair and eyes, but also the hearing organs. However, among such people there are many who suffer from vitiligo, in contrast to blue-eyed people.
