Doctors have revealed eight beneficial side effects of coffee
Many believe that the main benefit of coffee is its ability to fill energy. However, this drink has at least eight more surprising side effects, according to nutritionist Jonathan Valdez, a representative of the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
One of them is related to the fact that the caffeine contained in coffee, increases the level of adrenaline in the blood, and also stimulates the breakdown of fats. This makes fatty acids available as fuel for our body. Therefore, coffee is especially useful for those who train.
Also, coffee reduces the risk of depression and suicide. However, it is not known whether this is specifically related to the drink. Experts say it is difficult to separate the benefits attributed to coffee from the benefits of caffeine
There is evidence that coffee reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and possibly colon cancer. According to doctors, this is due to the presence of polyphenols in the drink – a wide range of chemicals. They are also found in various fruits, vegetables and tea.
Coffee will also protect against heart diseases. The fact is that it is rich in antioxidants – natural plant compounds that have been proven to help prevent some chronic diseases. For example, an antioxidant called chlorogenic acid lowers cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar. To get the maximum benefit from the drink for the heart, doctors recommend drinking two to five cups of coffee of 300 ml each day. At the same time, doctors warn that unfiltered coffee (French press and espresso shots) contains an ingredient called cafestol. It can increase the level of “bad” cholesterol, which, on the contrary, will increase the risk of heart disease.
Observational studies have also found a link between regular coffee consumption and a reduced risk of developing Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. When coffee beans are roasted, they produce a set of compounds called phenylindanes, which protect the brain from excessive accumulation of proteins. This is believed to play a key role in reducing brain function.
Coffee reduces fat deposits. So, drinking four cups of an invigorating drink a day can reduce body fat by about 4%. This became known in the course of research by experts from the Harvard School of Public Health.
In addition, this drink brings people together, as a cup of coffee is the most neutral way to invite a person to spend time together. And it doesn't matter if you call a friend, colleague or lover. According to the results of one of the studies, participants who briefly held a cup of hot coffee in their hands recognized that the person they were talking to was more warm, generous and caring.
