Heart attacks are dangerous for life conditions in which the blood supply to the heart is suddenly blocked. They are most often provoked by cardiovascular diseases.
Attacks can be prevented by following a healthy diet. However, recent studies have shown that consuming diet drinks may not be the healthy alternative that manufacturers often claim. These include artificially sweetened beverages that do not contain sugar, but contain low-calorie sweeteners. At the same time, the sugar content in sweet drinks can be 5% or more.
American scientists have studied the relationship between the consumption of diet drinks and the risk of cardiovascular diseases. More than 100,000 people participated in the study. The participants were divided into three groups based on their consumption of artificially sweetened beverages.
In the first three years of the study, the participants in the group that consumed the most sweetened beverages were found to have cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attacks, strokes and acute coronary syndrome. After three years, similar diseases appeared in 1,300 people from this group.
Research data show that people who often drink so-called diet drinks are more prone to cardiovascular diseases.
