Doctors name three habits that lead to longevity: “simple patterns of behavior”

Experts state that “simple patterns of behavior” in their regular practice can provide people with longevity.

The desire to live a long and healthy life is wonderful. But some effort is needed to maintain your health and body in good condition, experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say. According to scientists, various habits can contribute to longevity, but even following three of them significantly increases the chances of a longer life. A six-year study found that “three key factors can influence whether a person dies young or lives a full life.” According to the researchers, the following three habits, which they call “simple patterns of behavior,” have a huge impact on health and overall mortality.

  • Adhering to a healthier diet.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Moderate physical exercise for at least 21 minutes a day.

Adhering to a healthy diet. Doctors advise to eat more whole plant (whole grain) products, avoid eating industrially processed products.

“Aging and age-related diseases are closely related to oxidation of the body, but eating foods rich in antioxidants , can slow down this oxidation process”.

Experts consider variety of products to be the best principle of nutrition, when a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices are consumed with each meal. Thus, the body is gradually filled with antioxidants, thanks to which it is more effectively cleansed of toxins and maintains energy.

Do not smoke. In the process of smoking, the lungs are filled with toxic resins and smoke, although this organ should saturate every cell of the body with oxygen. Quitting smoking not only improves lung health, but also preserves longer protective telomeres, the kind of “caps” at the ends of our chromosomes that keep DNA from decaying. In turn, the study found shortened telomeres in smokers, which is a physiological marker of a short life span.

Moderate physical activity. Sports are important, but you don't need to train too intensively like an Olympian. Here's what doctors say:

“The more often you get up from your desk or couch, the less time you spend sitting, and the less time you sit for long periods of time, the better if you want to live a long and healthy life.” .

The minimum level of moderate physical activity, when breathing becomes a little faster, is 21 minutes a day. This can be active walking, no jogging, exercise, swimming, cycling, dancing, doing some household chores (such as mopping the floor), doing yard work.

“Adopting just these three simple behaviors reduces the chances 82 percent of people will die,” doctors summarize.
