Doctors named six factors that lead to dementia

Doctors talked about six factors that which can lead to the development of dementia. According to their statement, dangerous diseases are becoming more and more young, for this reason they can overtake not only the elderly.

The first alarm bells

A person may not suspect that irreversible processes are taking place in the body. The disease can occur without symptoms or make itself known through non-obvious signs. It is about sudden awakening at night or distortion of the perception of smells. A change in gait also indicates changes in the body. A few years ago, researchers shared with the publication “dementia and geriatric cognitive disorders” the results of a study in which they found that all volunteers with dementia had a coordination disorder.

Specialists drew attention to the fact that people who turn to doctors began to suffer from dementia after 3-5 years due to problems with walking. Patients reported “swaying” from side to side, imbalance, inability to accelerate. People with dementia have also noticed memory impairment, problems with formulating thoughts.

Criteria of danger

Doctors and scientists intend to find out the reasons for the development of dementia in the future. Now they are studying the anamnesis of patients and trying to identify possible risk groups. Experts have named aging and genes as the most important risk factors for dementia.

The occurrence of the disease also depends on gender. Scientists representing the Rotterdam Medical Center, in the course of the study, came to the conclusion that women fall into the risk zone. Almost half of women and every third man after the age of 45 may face a dangerous neurodegenerative disease or Parkinson's disease.

Ethnicity can influence the manifestation of dementia. Representatives of the Negroid race are most often faced with mental retardation. The factor of occurrence may be the amount of “cognitive reserve” – the ability of the brain to fight the disease. You can fill it with brain training. Chronic diseases can affect the development of dementia. Scientists have noted that various pathologies lead to the disease. Lifestyle and ecology can also be risk factors.
