In the human body the liver performs more than 500 tasks, including filtering blood and removing toxic waste. Therefore, when its work is disturbed, there is a risk of various health problems, including long-term ones.
People who abuse alcohol most often face liver diseases. However, those who do not follow a balanced diet, take many medications or are exposed to toxins in the environment are also at risk.
If the liver is not functioning properly, the body starts sending the appropriate signals. Signs that indicate that the liver needs rest include the following conditions:
* the skin and/or the whites of the eyes have acquired a yellow tint;
* you gain weight, even if you do not overeat;
* frequent bloating;
* constant feeling of stress or anxiety;
* frequent mood swings;
* inevitable desire to eat something sweet;
* dry and itchy skin;
* bad breath;
* seasonal allergies or autoimmune diseases;
* pain and discomfort in the right side of the chest.
In addition, experts advise paying attention to dandelion. Its roots and leaves are known for their cleansing properties. Citrus fruits—oranges, grapefruits, and lemons—contain a compound called d-limonene, which protects the liver from oxidative stress. Nuts and seeds also contain a powerful antioxidant – vitamin E. In addition, it is worth including fermented foods, spinach, avocado, asparagus, leafy green vegetables, legumes, green tea and turmeric in the diet.
