Every year, every fifth inpatient dies from sepsis, and infectious complications are almost the main cause of death in the hospital. Doctors explained the dangers of blood poisoning.

In the early stages, it is extremely difficult to diagnose the infection, but the spread continues at a high speed, which makes it even more difficult to stop it. This is a condition in which organ systems do not respond to blood infection.

The doctor clarified that sepsis is more likely to occur in patients with complications – they have a severely weakened immune system against the background of the underlying disease. The risk group consists of cancer patients after chemotherapy. Sepsis often affects the lungs, which leads to respiratory failure.

Septic shock, in turn, has an extremely negative effect on the heart and is characterized by an increased likelihood of death. To prevent septic shock, even the slightest changes in key test indicators should be noticed. With an interval of 2 hours, it is necessary to measure blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse and saturation. Elementary hygiene should also be observed – prevention of contamination from patient to patient.
