Does green tea help with high sugar: what the study showed

According to a new study, the use of green tea extract helps reduce high blood sugar levels by improving such an important health indicator as “gut integrity”.
The authors of the study, which studied the effect of green tea on blood sugar, were scientists from Ohio State University.
Scientists conducted tests with the participation of 40 adults (some of the subjects had been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, some consisted of healthy people ).
For 28 days, project participants consumed chewing candies containing green tea extract. They consumed about five cups of green tea a day. A separate group consisted of people who received a placebo.
Ultimately, improvements in blood sugar were recorded in all volunteers who drank green tea and had health problems. In particular, they had a significantly lower fasting glucose concentration (compared to the placebo group). Further analysis showed that among the participants who consumed green tea, improved blood sugar levels were closely related to reduced markers of inflammation in the gut.
According to the scientists, green tea primarily improves the condition of the gut, and the reduction blood sugar is a consequence of this process.
“Intestinal permeability allows bacteria and associated toxic compounds to enter the bloodstream, stimulating low-grade chronic inflammation – contributing to obesity and insulin resistance. When drinking green tea, there is a significant decrease in the permeability and inflammation of the intestine, which is probably associated with a decrease in blood sugar,” stated Richard Bruno, professor of the Department of Human Nutrition at Ohio State University.
