Don't embarrass yourself: 6 things to clean before guests arrive

The holidays are very soon, and if you are preparing for the fact that relatives and friends, you must be feeling the pressure to create the perfect guest room that everyone will be comfortable in.

Besides, there are so many things to do at this time of year that it's hard to keep track of everything! Fortunately, you can be a good host. Here's a list of things to clean up in your guest room, along with a few extra things to make your friends and family feel right at home.

Knock out the dust

Start by deep cleaning the room. Dust all surfaces, including the dresser, nightstands, desk, and TV, if you have one. You should also wipe the dust from the windowsills. Don't forget to vacuum the floor.

Make the bed again

If the bed is made, it does not mean that the bed linen is clean. If you put in fresh sheets a week or two ago, you're probably fine, but if you haven't washed your sheets in a while, it's best to freshen them up.

Clean in the bathroom

If your guest room has a private bathroom, it's important to make sure that space (or any other bathroom that guests use) shines. Wash the bathtub and shower cabin, as well as the sink and countertop. Do not forget to clean the mirrors with glass cleaner. Finally, flush the toilet.

Make sure there is at least one fresh towel per guest. Don’t forget a hair towel and washcloths. A plush bathrobe is optional, but definitely a nice bonus.

While you don’t have to go all out, it’s a good idea to have basic toiletries in your bathroom, like soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion, just like you would in a hotel. Keep an extra hair dryer under the sink or in a drawer if you have one.

Decorate your closet

Cleaning out your closet should only take a few minutes. Discard any empty dry cleaning bags or wire hangers. If you are using a guest closet for your own clothes, move everything to the side.

Finally, leave a few empty hangers in case your guests need to hang their clothes. Non-slip or velvet hangers are best.

Tidy dresser drawers

Look inside a dresser drawer. If you store out-of-season clothes in your guest room, try to fold them so that there is one empty drawer for guests.

Prepare the nightstand

Make sure the nightstand drawers are empty should not be Then give them a quick dusting.

A tidy nightstand is the perfect place for remote controls. Don't forget to put in new batteries if you don't remember when you last changed them. It's also a good idea to put an extra phone charger in a drawer so your guest won't bother you if they forget theirs.

Finally, put a bottle of water or a carafe on the nightstand with a cup so your guest doesn't have to go to the kitchen if he will want to drink in the middle of the night.
