A pre-workout drink has been found to increase blood coagulation of study participants. How alarming is this discovery?
Thrombuses are gel-like blood clots that form in response to an injury or cut. Blood clots can also be dangerous if they form for no good reason and don't dissolve naturally.
The latter type can form during intense exercise after consuming a caffeinated beverage. Caffeine is the mainstay of pre-workout drinks because it increases energy and concentration. However, this can cause unwanted consequences. Caffeine consumption increases blood clotting during strenuous exercise sessions, increasing the risk of blood clots.
Coagulation, also known as coagulation, is the process by which blood changes from a liquid to a gel, forming blood flow. To come to this conclusion, the research team conducted two training sessions for 48 young men with an average age of 23 years and a normal body mass index.
The study participants were given a placebo drink and then a caffeinated drink before performing a difficult exercise on an exercise bike. . Then they drew blood.
After drinking caffeine, coagulation levels were significantly higher, putting study participants at increased risk for conditions such as heart attack, stroke, deep vein thrombosis, or pulmonary embolism.
