Edible adhesive tape created to “glue” rolls and shawarma
1
A useful thing for amateur cooks whose rolls and kebabs constantly fall apart. As reported by Gizmodo, a group of students from Johns Hopkins University have developed what may be the world's first edible adhesive tape that will keep burritos or shawarma from constantly falling apart.
Details
The edible “gluer” is called “Tastee Tape.” It consists of a “food-grade fiber framework and organic adhesive,” which ensures that the ingredients in the burrito won’t fall out during cooking or eating.
Tastee Tape can be used on any food, including tortillas, tacos, and gyros.
What is the adhesive made of?
The students are currently applying for a patent, so they can’t reveal the full composition of the adhesive tape. However, they note that “all ingredients are safe to consume, the tape consists of food products and common food and dietary supplements.”
The product comes in pre-cut, two-inch strips attached to sheets of waxed paper. To make it sticky, just apply water to it.
Potentially edible glue can be used not only for rolls and burritos: for example, it can be used to glue a cake or fix any culinary mistakes.
