Excessive passion for certain types of food can harm health I As a rule, we are talking about products with a high content of fat or cholesterol. However, excessive spicy consumption may increase the risk of developing dementia.
In a study published in the journal Nutrients, a group of scientists studied the diet of 4,582 adults in China and analyzed the amount of chili pepper they ate over 15 years.
The results showed that study participants over the age of 55 who ate more than 50 grams of chili pepper daily had almost twice the risk of cognitive decline, memory problems, and dementia.
The data also showed that leaner participants were more likely to suffer from memory loss if they ate a diet rich in spicy food.
The team also noticed another connection. Participants who ate more chili peppers were more likely to have lower income and lower body mass index (BMI) and were more likely to exercise than those whose diets contained less chili.
