A study conducted by Hycosan & Optase Eye Care showed what long hours of computer work leads to. As it turned out, a lower blinking frequency threatens the appearance of dry eyes, which causes tension, blurred vision and headaches.
According to experts, people usually blink 20 times per minute, but this frequency drops from one to three times when concentrating on the screen. The study found that more than half of the UK population spends their working week in front of a monitor, with the typical office worker looking at a display for more than 5.5 hours a day. 88% of people surveyed admitted that their eyes suffered. Headaches affected more than a third of those surveyed, and one in five experienced blurred or impaired vision.
Expert Sabrina Shah-Desai said on this occasion: “Screens have taken over our lives, so it is critical that we take steps to look after our eyes and have regular breaks from artificial light and digital devices.”
