Medics and sociologists voiced the worst consequences of alcohol abuse. Uncontrolled drinking leads not only to diseases and early death.
The insidiousness of alcoholism, first of all, lies in the fact that, completely imperceptibly for the person himself, simple drunkenness from an innocent habit gradually turns into a serious disease. A person ceases to control his desire for alcohol, the desire to drink alcohol becomes an unbearable psychological dependence and physical need, forcing him to increase the doses of strong drinks. This harmful passion completely dominates a person and destroys his personality and health. Medical narcologists consider the worst thing to be the fact that most alcoholics do not consider themselves alcoholics, do not see a problem and do not want to be treated.
“The life expectancy of an alcoholic is, on average, 17 years shorter than that of a non-drinker, taking into account and eliminating the influence of other significant factors,” say WHO experts.
Poisoning of the body with alcohol occurs gradually, but surely. The quality of alcohol does not really affect the consequences. Drink primarily burns the mucous membrane of the esophagus and stomach, injuring them, causing ulcers and erosions. Stomach ulcer is a disease that is later detected by doctors in all alcoholics.
Then alcohol enters the liver, where it turns into a poisonous substance – acetic aldehyde. The liver is the organ that is capable of recovery and “self-resuscitation”, but even this does not save it from systematic large doses of alcohol. Cirrhosis of the liver gradually occurs, it ceases to cope with the filtering function, and poisonous substances begin to poison the heart, pancreas, brain and other important human organs in a chain. Alcoholism also causes sexual problems.
“An old truth is that alcohol stimulates desire, but at the same time reduces the ability to fulfill it.”
Sociologists have summarized the disappointing conclusions of many years of statistics: most crimes are committed while intoxicated. In the company of the same drunken people, a person loses control of his behavior, daring for the sake of bravado to do the most dangerous and cruel things that he would never do in a sober state. But alcohol deprives a person of control over his own body and mind, dulling the sense of danger.
Police reports are full of stories of crimes committed while intoxicated. A drunk person devalues not only his own life, but also that of others. Murders, road accidents, violent robberies and assaults – all this is committed by drunk people in 85% of cases. The natural result is punishment, court and prison. In the end, the already undermined health of the person who asks only worsens, which leads the alcoholic to an early death.
Alcoholism is a problem for the entire society, but only the person himself decides how to live his life, which is more important for him – harmful passion or long healthy life and happiness of loved ones.
