One of the best natural fertilizers is compost. Its preparation for use depends on the correctness of the formation of the pit and the waste that is placed there. Summer residents sometimes have concerns about the extent to which certain plant remains or other components can be sent into the pit. In this article, we will share information so that everyone on the site has the right compost.
Sick plants or not
The army of summer residents and experts is divided into two parts. Some claim that they do not put the remains of diseased plants in the compost. Such an example can be tops from tomatoes with phytophthora. Others claim that nothing like this will happen, because the temperature in the compost at the stage of internal processes of rotting is over 50 degrees, and at 40 degrees, the same phytophthora is neutralized. Disputes on this matter do not stop.
What to put in the compost
Mown grass, small branches, plant residues from the beds, leaves, carrion can be added to the total mass. The list also includes the following components:
- cardboard and paper, old newspapers;
- hay, straw, sawdust ;
- rotted bird droppings;
- remnants of fruits, vegetables and products;
- old jam, coffee cake, tea;
- egg shell;
Please note that it is better not to send thistles with seeds to the compost. They can then germinate when using fertilizer. Sort your waste and compost properly.
