Experts have revealed whether it is dangerous to swim with contact lenses

Experts from Germany told whether it is actually dangerous to swim with contact lenses. According to experts, it is important to follow the recommendations, otherwise serious eye infections may occur, up to and including loss of vision.

Whether it is hard or soft contact lenses: in both cases, direct contact with water should be avoided, according to German experts. The reason for this is that the liquid contains various microbes that are fixed in the product, and this can partially cause serious eye infections.

Moreover, not only microbes are attracted, but also substances, including chlorine. However, for a person who wants to feel comfortable while swimming, it is best to use daily lenses and dispose of them immediately after being in the pool or at sea. In other cases, thorough cleaning and disinfection are necessary.

The most dangerous microbe that is also found in swimming pools is Acanthamoeba, the lesion can lead to loss of vision. This applies to any person, but contact lens wearers are especially at risk, as pathogens get under the lenses and cannot be washed off quickly enough. Microbes can get into the storage container and continue to multiply there, which should be taken into account.

Experts advise doing everything possible to avoid contact of these devices with water, even when taking a shower and washing your face. The best option for swimming is waterproof swimming goggles.
