Foundation Hearts in New Zealand has published new guidelines for eating red meat and chicken. The foundation's chief nutrition adviser, Dave Monroe, recalled that earlier research suggests the harm of eating large amounts of red meat.
However, in the right proportions, it can become part of a healthy diet.
According to research, eating less than 350 grams of unprocessed red meat per week reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke.
However, every additional 100 grams of this product per day above the recommended level is associated with increased the risk of stroke by 12%, reports the Gisborne Herald.
Monro said that protein “substitutes” for red meat can also be useful for the heart: chickpeas, soy, nuts.
They contribute lowering the cholesterol level. As for chicken, it is neutral for health. Eating it does not cause harm, but it does not have any special advantages.
