Experts named the main mistake in defrosting products

It is a shame to throw away leftover products or ready meals. Most send them to the freezer, and then defrost them as needed. But if you're used to sending food straight from the freezer to a pan or pot, it's worth changing your approach.
According to Jennylyn Hutchings, a certified food safety specialist, the safest way to defrost is to transfer food to the main compartment of the refrigerator. It takes about 24 hours to defrost 0.5 kg of food.
Hutchings notes that it is possible to defrost in cold water. In this case, the time will be reduced to 20-30 minutes per 0.5 kg. However, the water temperature should not exceed 5 degrees Celsius. If you are in a hurry, you should use the microwave. But only if it has a special defrosting mode built into it.
If you need to do the opposite – save the leftovers for the future, you should immediately send them to the refrigerator or freezer. If you leave food at room temperature for a long time, bacteria can multiply and subsequent freezing will not kill them.
