Experts named two signs of hypertension

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, occurs due to the narrowing of small arteries – arterioles. These vessels are involved in the regulation of blood flow. Their narrowing and expansion affects the work of the heart. Thus, when arterioles are compressed, the “pump” has to work harder, as it is difficult to pump blood through narrowed vessels. All this contributes to increasing pressure.
Hypertension is a serious problem that requires prompt diagnosis. However, it is difficult to identify the signs of the disease in time, which is why many doctors call high blood pressure a “silent killer”.
The first thing you should pay attention to is the appearance of blood stains on the whites of the eyes. Such hemorrhage is called subconjunctival. Small and fragile vessels are damaged, and blood seeps into the eye space.
The American Heart Association assures that this phenomenon often occurs in people with diabetes or hypertension. And although these diseases are not the cause of the appearance of hemorrhages in the eye, they can indirectly affect its manifestation. Yes, untreated high blood pressure can damage the optic nerve.
Another symptom may be facial redness. It occurs when blood vessels and capillaries expand. Many factors usually lead to this, including high blood pressure.
As cardiologist professor Gerry Jennings explains, flushing is not directly related to high blood pressure. However, this sign is often found in people prone to outbursts of aggression and anger.
“About a third of people with hypertension are tense and anxious, another third, on the contrary, are very relaxed. The last third is somewhere in the middle,” the expert said.
