Hair loss is a sensitive topic. Although genetics play a big role, there are modifiable factors, such as diet, stress levels, and shower habits.
According to the American Academy of Dermatologists (AAD), losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal. But the use of hot water for washing hair can increase these numbers.
“Hot water can damage the keratin proteins in the hair and remove sebum from the surface of the head. This will make the hair very dry and weak, leading to breakage, says hairdresser Mark Townsend, creative director of Collective Laboratories. – Hot water opens the cuticle layer of the hair, causing moisture loss and brittleness.”
The above factors can contribute to hair loss. Slightly warm water is ideal for washing. It will be able to soften the skin fat, but it will not lead to its complete removal.
It is better to use cool water for rinsing. This helps to seal the hair cuticle, which will retain moisture and prevent breakage.
