Extending life by five years turned out to be under the power of a simple supplement

While there is still no surefire way to extend life, there are several key factors that can help you live longer. These include a balanced diet, regular physical and social activity.
However, according to a new study, a lack of one nutrient in the diet can also negatively affect longevity. According to scientists, a low level of omega-3 can reduce life expectancy by almost five years.
In the study, omega-3 indices (percentage of total fatty acids) were studied in more than 2,000 people. which were used to assess health and the risk of early death. As a result, it was found that the higher the index, the lower the risk.
“The easiest way to explain this is, all else being equal, which of course is never the case, people with the highest omega-3 index in 20 % lived approximately 4.7 years longer (after 65 years) than people with a lower index of these acids,” said William S. Harris, co-author of the study.
At the same time, in a previous study it was established that smoking shortens life by about the same number of years, he added. However, the scientist noted that this does not mean that it is possible to eliminate the harm caused by smoking with the help of fish oil supplements.
