In some cases, eyelid twitching can be an early sign of certain diseases of the brain and nervous system.
Eye twitching can be one of the early signs of a brain disease, such as Parkinsonism. The specialist stated that more often such twitching occurs as a signal of less dangerous disorders.
In particular, it can be a consequence of increased stress, fatigue, visual strain and dry eyes, abuse of caffeine and alcohol. But sometimes twitching of the eyelids can be one of the early signs of diseases of the brain and nervous system: they include Parkinson's disease, Bell's palsy, dystonia, multiple sclerosis, Tourette's syndrome.
How long can the eye twitch? Twitching can last from a few days to a few weeks. But its character, which is clearly prolonged, indicates the need to consult a specialist. It should also be done if a person experiences any of the following:
- The eyelid closes completely with force every time it twitches.
- The eyes become red, swollen.
- Eyes are difficult to open.
- Twitching lasts longer than a few weeks
- Twitching occurs on the face, in other parts of the body.
- Eyelids look omitted.
