Fatty food is not always bad: scientists have learned that it helps get rid of intestinal parasites

British scientists have discovered that a diet high in fat allows the immune system to get rid of intestinal parasites.
One such parasite is called a hairball. It is a roundworm that causes the disease trichocephalosis. It damages the colon, which can lead to abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headaches and even bloody stools.
To study how diet affects infection with parasitic worms, scientists used a mouse model closely related to human tapeworm. It turned out that a fatty diet allows T-helper cells to mount the right immune response to get rid of the worm.
